Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC) is a semi-synthetic, inactive, and viscoelastic polymer, belonging to one of the non-ionic cellulose mixed ethers. It is an important cellulose ether with a wide range of uses and functions. In the solid state, it is a pure white, slightly yellow powder, with a white or slightly yellow fibrous or granular appearance. It has good stability and is incompatible with strong oxidants. The product is flammable. There are strict requirements for production, transportation, and storage.
The products are widely used in the construction industry, the washing industry, the pharmaceutical industry, the ceramic industry, cosmetics, plastics, petroleum, textiles, printing and dyeing, and other fields. As auxiliary materials or molding agents, they can respectively play the roles of thickening, lubrication, dispersion, activity, water retention, suspension, emulsification, crack resistance, and strength increase. The gel has a high temperature tolerance, which can extend the opening time and controllability, improve the workability, thixotropy, plasticity, wrapping, lubricity, flowability, and resistance to sagging.
